As National Adoption Week begins, we’re reflecting on what truly makes a house a home for an adopted child.
This year’s theme for National Adoption Week reminds us that adoption doesn’t require a "perfect home" - just a loving one. But what does that really mean?
We've asked our adoption team to share their thoughts, they have supported many families through their adoption journeys, and here’s what they had to say:
“A loving home is one where parents really see and listen to the child - as an individual. It’s about creating safety and structure, so the child can begin to feel good about who they are. Love isn't one-size-fits-all, especially for children who’ve had a difficult start in life. It’s about finding the child’s unique ‘language of love’ - which may be different from what we expect.”
Another team member added:
“Children feel loved and special when their uniqueness is accepted, valued and celebrated.”
That’s the heart of it. A loving home isn't measured in neat rows of matching towels or freshly painted walls. It’s built on warmth, acceptance, and the belief that every child deserves to be known, heard and cherished.
This week, we’ll be sharing more from our adoption team - real insights from those who walk beside families every day. Because ultimately, it’s love, not perfection, that matters most.
