Having ‘Faith’ to provide the best training for Diagrama staff

Diagrama’s Adoption and Fostering team recently spent an informative Faith Literacy training session with Krish Kandiah, founding director of Home for Good.

Here at Diagrama Adoption and Fostering we recognise that children who need to be adopted and fostered come from a range of different backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities.

As such we believe it therefore essential for Diagrama’s Adoption and Fostering team to fully understand any faith issues that may arise during the assessment process.

To enable us to do this, our team recently spent an informative Faith Literacy training session with Krish Kandiah, founding director of Home for Good. Home for Good is a Christian charity currently working in partnership with Diagrama to raise awareness of the need for foster and adoptive parents, encouraging and supporting families to offer safe and caring homes for the children in care.

The training session provides adoption and fostering professionals with a better understanding of faith, ensuring the right questions can be asked during assessment stages which in turn helps candidates feel there is a fuller understanding and acceptance of their faith, reducing any risk of prejudice.

Diagrama’s Fostering Manager Catherine Moore said: “As a learning agency we strive to provide an excellent service and ongoing staff development plays a vital part in that. Faith literacy training has given the whole team a greater understanding of how to deal with issues surrounding different faiths. Diagrama is keen to hear from prospective adopters and foster carers from all faith backgrounds (or none) and we offer a warm welcome to all enquirers.”

Topics during the training session included understanding different terminology, church governance and roles and responsibilities, positive and protective factors within churches and faith communities, key issues for assessing Adoption and Foster professionals to consider and also values and beliefs vs prioritising children’s needs.
