Each year we plan a picnic to give our team, our carers and the children we support a fun day out where they can develop new relationships and share their experiences.
On Saturday 7 September we had a fantastic time at our family fun day picnic. We were joined by 47 adults and 48 children, plus some of our team members with some of their children. The weather held out for us too. Just a few small spots of rain which really didn't bother anyone.
To ensure everyone enjoyed themselves we had a large indoor bouncy castle for smaller children and a mini soft play for babies, we had an even bigger bouncy castle outdoors for the older kids! And adults!
We offered face painting and temporary tattoos and had a craft table where children were painting rocks and tracing over leaves and twigs from the garden, to create some lovely pictures We also had two young people running a jewellery making stand.
We organised some really fun sporting games (the theme of the day was Diagrama Olympics). One of the staff had built a homemade pitch and putt golf course where one young boy spent ages trying to win himself a bronze, silver and gold medal!! At one point there were some organised piggyback races with children on the backs of their parents or carers. It was brilliant to see the laughter these races brought!
We had a raffle for a ‘Diagramasaurous’, with children donating £1 so they could try and guess its name. The winner was 4 year old Z who guessed Rocco! He was really pleased to win! All the money we raised will go to a school project we support in Kenya.
The visit from the ice cream van was the icing on the cake (or should I say the flake and sprinkles on the top of the cone) and a lovely ending to the day.
Everyone left the day smiling with some new connections and lots of wonderful memories.
