Big Adoption Day: Opening Doors to Loving Homes
Across the UK, thousands of children are currently waiting for adoptive families. Many have been in care longer than they should have been, waiting not because they are “hard to place”, but because people often don’t realise just how open and inclusive adoption can be. Big Adoption Day is about changing that understanding and reassuring people that if they have love, patience and commitment to give, adoption could be for them.
Meet Us: In Person or Online
To mark Big Adoption Day, Diagrama Adoption is offering a drop-in session in Croydon, giving local people the chance to meet our friendly adoption team face-to-face, ask questions, and have honest conversations in a relaxed environment. There is no pressure and no obligation — just information and support.
Big Adoption Day Coffee & Cake Meet 21 January 2026 at 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Alongside this, we run online information sessions, making it easier for people to explore adoption wherever they are. These sessions are ideal if you are at an early stage, simply curious, or unsure whether adoption is the right path for you.
The next one is on 14 January at 6:00 PM
Who Can Adopt?
One of the biggest myths about adoption is that you must fit a very narrow profile. Adoption is far more inclusive than many people expect.
- There is a minimum age requirement, but no upper age limit to adopt
- You can be single or married, in a relationship or on your own
- You may already have birth children, or you may never have had children
- What matters most is your ability to provide a safe, stable, and loving home
Children waiting for adoption come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, and they need adopters who can offer understanding, resilience and long-term commitment — not perfection.
Diagrama Adoption is proud to be a voluntary adoption agency, and this is something we believe is incredibly important for both children and adopters.
As a voluntary agency, we are child-centred, not profit-driven. Every decision we make is guided by what is in the best interests of the child. We work closely with local authorities while offering a more personalised, supportive approach to adopters, from initial enquiry through to post-adoption support.
Being voluntary also means we can be flexible, innovative, and deeply committed to walking alongside families for the long term, not just until an adoption order is made, but well beyond.
Big Adoption Day is not about rushing decisions. It is about opening minds and hearts. It is about recognising that behind every statistic is a child waiting for someone to say, “You belong with us.”
If you have ever thought about adoption, even briefly, we invite you to take that next small step. Join a drop-in session in Croydon, attend an online information event, or simply start a conversation with our team.
Because for the children waiting today, that conversation could change everything.
