Diagrama is proud to support LGBTQ+ Adoption and Fostering Week 2025

Family is built on love, support, and stability - not on gender, sexuality, or traditional societal expectations. At Diagrama, we celebrate and champion the LGBTQ+ community as an essential part of the fabric of adoption and fostering, providing loving homes to children who need them most.

Why LGBTQ+ Adopters and Fosterers Matter

Across the UK, thousands of children need stable nurturing homes, and LGBTQ+ individuals and couples have played a crucial role in meeting this need. In England in 2024, 1 in 5 adoptions were to same sex couples and in Wales the figure was 1 in 4.

The LGBTQ+ community brings a wealth of strengths to adoption and fostering, including resilience, empathy, and a deep understanding of the importance of acceptance. Many LGBTQ+ people have navigated their own journeys of identity and belonging, equipping them with unique insights into supporting children who have faced trauma, neglect, or uncertainty.

Breaking Down Barriers and Myths

Despite significant progress in equality, some myths persist around LGBTQ+ adoption and fostering. At Diagrama, we want to reassure potential adopters and fosterers that sexual orientation and gender identity are not barriers to providing a safe and loving home.

What truly matters is the ability to provide a child with a nurturing environment where they feel safe, valued, and supported. Parenting, in any form, is about commitment, patience, and unconditional love. LGBTQ+ foster carers and adopters have consistently demonstrated these qualities, helping children flourish in their care.

Representation Matters

For many children in care, especially those who may identify as LGBTQ+ themselves, being placed with carers who understand and accept diverse identities can be life changing. Representation matters, and when children see that love and family come in many forms, they develop a broader and healthier perspective on belonging and self-worth.

Moreover, LGBTQ+ carers often create inclusive homes where open conversations about identity, acceptance, and self-expression are encouraged. This can be particularly beneficial for children who have experienced discrimination, neglect, or a sense of being different.

How to Get Started

At Diagrama, we offer a supportive and inclusive process, ensuring you receive the guidance, training, and resources needed to make a difference in a child’s life. Diagrama is a gold member of New Family Social, an organisation which specialises in supporting LGBTQ+ adopters and foster carers. If you choose to adopt or foster with Diagrama you will automatically be able to access support via New Family Social too.

We welcome individuals, couples, and families from all backgrounds to explore the rewarding journey of providing a child with the love and security they deserve.

Join Us in Making a Difference

Every child deserves a loving home, and the LGBTQ+ community has a vital role to play in making that a reality. By opening your heart and home to a child in need, you can provide them with the stability, acceptance, and unconditional love that will shape their future.
