Accessing your adoption records
We hold adoption and care records of more than 25,000 people, some dating back to the early 1900’s. We support and guide people through the complex process of finding out about their backgrounds.
Activities and events
As a Diagrama adopter you can benefit from a range of activities and events provided by us.
Birth children and adoption
Before beginning your adoption application, we advise you to thoroughly discuss your plans with the whole family and your close friends and ensure everyone is committed and able to offer support when you need it.
Support for LGBTQ+ adopters
At Diagrama Adoption we are actively recruiting prospective adopters who may be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT+).
Comprehensive, expert support when our adopters need it most.
Adopting a child from the care system can bring many joys, but it can also bring some unique issues too. At Diagrama, we work hard to make sure you are aware of all the information there is about children before they move to live with you. This enables you to go into the placement feeling as informed as possible.
In the first few weeks and months after placement your Diagrama social worker will be in very regular contact and undertake regular visits to you. We recognise that this is often an exciting time but also a time that can present you with many changes and challenges. We offer support advice and guidance throughout this period and help you to negotiate the various meetings you will have with other professionals who are involved in the child’s life.
Our social workers are very experienced at supporting families at this crucial stage of a placement and we consistently get feedback which indicates how appreciated this support is.
Once an adoption order has been granted you will still be able to keep in contact with Diagrama and seek advice if this were something you would like to do. Perhaps you want to attend training we are facilitating or come along to our drop in sessions, picnics or social gatherings. We always want you to know there is someone there for you whatever you face. We will keep you informed about events via our regular newsletters. Or you can ring and speak to a duty social worker whenever you like.
Our support is always person/family-centred and we work in partnership with the family, young person or individual in a variety of ways. These include:

• Adoption and care records
Some families need to access more specialised support. In these situations you may be entitled to access the Government’s Adoption and Special Guardian Support Fund (ASGSF). A member of the team will be able to provide more advice on this and help you to talk to the relevant local authority about accessing this.
We can assure you that if you adopt a child with Diagrama and you feel there is more support you need, we will help you to consider what might be needed and how to go about accessing this. Our social workers have supported many families in the past, and we will continue to do this if you choose to adopt with us.
