Sensory Integration

Event date:

Monday, 19 November, 2018
Croydon (9am - 2.30pm)

It is possible for children who have experienced neglect, abuse or some form of trauma to develop sensory processing and developmental difficulties of some form. A child who has not been physically or mentally stimulated may develop difficulties such as poor coordination and Global Developmental Delay. If these difficulties are not resolved it could result in the child’s development being impaired.

Contact and Social Media

Event date:

Wednesday, 31 October, 2018
Croydon (9am - 1pm)

Social media is very much a part of our daily lives and is widespread amongst adults and children, including those that have been adopted. Although social media has positive benefits, it is also important for adopters to be aware of the potential risks.

Loss, Grief and Transitions

Event date:

Monday, 10 September, 2018
Croydon (9am - 1pm)

It is essential for adoptive parents to understand the complexities that children may display as a result of loss and grief they may have experienced. Children will express their emotions in different ways. Some may internalise their emotions while others may present as being sad or perhaps have angry outbursts. Children experiencing loss and grief will require resilient caregivers who can provide a lot of emotional support.

Attachment and Trauma

Event date:

Monday, 25 June, 2018
Croydon (9am - 2.30pm)

Attachment, simple and complex traumas can all have a profound impact on a child and their development. The way attachment issues and trauma manifest in a child’s behaviour can be confusing and difficult for adopters to understand.  Many children who are adopted may not have previously experienced positive relationships and instead, may have been subject to neglect and abuse.
